Branding of a local MA-based diving start-up on a mission  to make scuba diving more popular, accessible, and safe for everyone.

The brief.

 

Collective Waters is a small business founded by Dave Kahn, a local businessman from Massachusetts, driven by his deep passion for scuba diving. The brand initially focused on designing and selling unique apparel for divers, aiming to promote the sport and share the beauty of diving with a wider audience.

Now, the brand has set its sights on a more ambitious goal: to inspire a global community of divers, ranging from beginners to seasoned experts, who are not only passionate about exploring the underwater world but also dedicated to protecting it for future generations. Collective Waters envisions a future where scuba diving is a mainstream activity, as popular and accessible as any other sport.

To support this expanded vision, Dave recognized the need for a new name, a compelling brand story, and a comprehensive rebranding to effectively communicate his mission to the world.

The design solution.

The approved visual concept aims to position diving as a cool and adventurous activity, akin to the allure of surfing. It emphasizes exploration, a sense of adventure, discovering an unseen world, and the unique, special experiences that diving offers.

Diving is seen not just as a sport, but as a lifestyle that combines adventure, exploration, and a deep connection with the natural world.

The icon is made out of a stylized letter "C” that is placed below the baseline, to reflect the underwater exploration and the letter “W” created by two diagonal thick lines, denoting a sense of action and excitement.  

 Various logo lockups, patterns, and stickers add warmth and energy to the brand.
